Educating Yourself on the Benefits of a Plant-Based Lifestyle




Living plant-based isn’t just a generational fad that will eventually go out of style. It’s a healthier, kinder and much more sustainable way of life that more and more people are turning to each day. But when first transitioning into a plant-based diet, it can be easy to lose motivation and give in to cravings as you make lifestyle changes. But if you’re looking to stay on track, educating yourself on the benefits of living plant-based can provide huge amounts of motivation and remind you why it’s so important to keep going.

Documentaries


It’s important to know where your food is coming from. Documentaries delve deeper into what goes on behind the scenes at factory farms and what we’re really putting into our bodies.


  • Cowspiracy - This film investigates the effects of animal agriculture on the environment, taking a look at issues such as deforestation and global warming.

  • Forks Over Knives - Forks Over Knives promotes the importance of a whole food, plant-based diet on our health, and examines the link between the consumption of animal products with health issues such as diabetes and obesity.

  • What the Health - Another documentary outlining the health benefits of a whole-food, plant based diet, What the Health is another great resource to check out

  • The Game Changers - This movie focuses on plant-based diets for athletes, and follows former UFC fighter James Wilks as he learns about nutrition and travels the world to to discuss plant-based living with other athletes.


Books


If you’re more of an avid reader than a Netflix fan, here are some great books to sink your teeth into and learn more about the importance of changing your life for good.


  • How Not to Die by Dr. Michael Greger - Widely accepted as one of the most important books about our health, How Not to Die discusses the leading factors of premature death and how lifestyle and diet changes are often the best thing you can do for yourself to reduce your risk of a wide variety of diseases and conditions.

  • Eat For Life by Joel Fuhrman - This book dives into the nutrition behind a plant-based diet, and how it can help reduce the risk of curtain diseases and bring you newfound energy.

  • The Vegan Starter Kit by Dr Neal Barnard - The perfect book if you’re looking to get started on your plant-based journey

  • Becoming Vegan by Brenda Davis - This book explores the benefits of a plant-based diet and explains why more people are choosing veganism

  • The China Study by T. Colin Campbell - This book discusses why, in a world where we are so obsessed with our body image, so many people are overweight and unhealthy.
