3 Secrets To Live Long & In Good Health

You were also probably told to start early to save for retirement I know... What if I turned the tables around and said “start now to guard your health so that you can enjoy longevity”? This discussion is always avoided but the earlier we face it honestly, the more longevity we will expect. We can't enjoy retirement in bad health or without being alive so here’s three secrets to longevity and good health.

3 Secrets To Longevity

1. Mindset

2. Good nutrition

3. Exercise

How does Mindset affect my health?

Mindset is the 'remote' part of your life. Just like you can achieve anything you set your mind to do, you can enjoy the best health once you set your mind to do so.

A positive mindset helps you overcome all the struggles you could be facing especially if you need to take some steps to correct them. Every other longevity factor in this article is heavily reliant on how receptive your mind can be.

Your body responds to how you think, feel and act whether positively or negatively so it's important to maintain a clear and healthy mindset in your life. A positive mindset can help you stay disciplined enough to stick to your exercise schedule, eat healthy meals and devote time to Yoga to improve your mental health.

A healthy mindset will also push you to invest in programs and opportunities that will maximize your productivity and general health.

How does Exercise affect my health?

Strong scientific evidence shows that being physically active can help you lead a much healthier and happier life. These people also have a lower risk of heart diseases, bowel cancer, type 2 diabetes, early death, depression, dementia and the list goes on. Regular physical activity is just unavoidable and avoiding it means gradually reducing the life in your body.

Being physically active can include:

  • Walking

  • Cycling

  • Swimming

  • Sports

  • Dancing, etc.

You just need to be moving quick enough to raise your heart rate, breathe much faster and feel warmer.

It is recommended that adults should be active everyday and do at least 150 minutes of moderate physical activity per week.

Exercise helps to:

  1. Control your weight and combat heart diseases.

  2. Manage blood sugar and insulin levels.

  3. Improve your mood and mental health.

  4. Keep your memory and brain function sharp as you age.

  5. Reduce anxiety and depression.

  6. Improve your quality of sleep.

How does Nutrition affect my health

Apart from providing your body with calories and energy, your body requires a balanced diet to perform well. If your nutrition is poor, you become vulnerable to diseases of all kinds.

Longevity diet contains more carbs and lesser protein which is why I always recommend a whole foods plant-based diet as the best route as it has proven to be healthier.

In around 440 B.C., the Greek physician Hippocrates said “Let food be thy medicine and let thy medicine be food.”

A whole foods plant-based diet contains a lot of healthy varieties to eat like vegetables, fruits, legumes, beans, nuts & seeds. These food sources contain adequate recommended daily quantities needed by your body for proper functioning.

It is very important to invest in a wellness coach if you are interested in longevity.

My yoga sessions, healthy recipes and health coaching sessions are a perfect combo if you are interested in getting started.
